Everyday we have new apps launching for Android, iOS and Windows platforms. Many go unnoticed while many shoot to fame in a instant. Periscope is one such app which got an instant acclaim for its ground breaking innovation in social media. For those of you who do not know what this app is all about, take a minute to read this article and download the app if it suits you.
Periscope is a live video streaming app which lets a user broadcast live videos to the world. You can start your own live feed and let your followers watch your live stream or watch live broadcast of the people who you follow. Going live instantly notifies your followers, who can join, comment and send you hearts in real time.
This app is integrated with Twitter so you will need a Twitter account in order to use the app. Even when you log in for the first time, the app suggests you to follow people that you are following on Twitter. If there isn’t any live activity going on, then you can watch open live streams by people around the world. Currently, Periscope is in direct competition with Meerkat, another live streaming app.
Many believe that this app can be used both for fun and serious business. You can watch a celebrity going about their daily activities or also see a citizen journalist broadcast an event or news to you. With many smartphones being equipped with a good quality front facing camera, we believe that this app service is going to become the next big thing in the social network. The app, in its initial 10 days after being launched on the Android platform, reached a whopping 1 million users worldwide. And its popularity is increasing by every passing day.
When your broadcast is over, you can make it available for replay so viewers can watch it later. Viewers can replay your broadcast with comments and hearts to relive the full experience. Replays currently last 24 hours and gives you the option to delete the replay anytime. You can also broadcast to specific people only. You can choose to share your Periscope broadcasts on Twitter by tapping the bird icon before you start broadcasting. When you go live, you’ll tweet a link so that your Twitter followers can watch it on the web (or in the app). Periscope keeps track of how many hearts you get from your viewers. The more hearts, the higher you get in the ‘Most Loved’ list.
Periscope was developed by Kayvon Beykpour and Joe Bernstein. The app was purchased byTwitter for a reported $100 million in March 2015. Just a day after its purchase, Twitter officially relaunched the application on iOS under its own App store account. Two months later Periscope was ready and available for download to Android users.
Periscope is not the only live broadcasting app out there, ‘Meerkat’ also works identically same as the Periscope. In fact Meerkat arrived first in the live broadcasting app business.
So if you think you have interesting incidents to share and can hold the attention of thousands of people, then start broadcasting. Do give a thumbs up to us when you become popular. Here is the first heart from iGyaan.
